We also offer free local pickup at our store in Fort Langley.
If you want to pick up in our store (currently there's only one) you can choose that option at checkout. That option is free. If you need more than a week to pick up your order, please send us a note to let us know.
We aim to ship within five business days from the day you order. We're a small company and everyone wears all the hats, so this window allows us to use our time efficiently.
However, due to the handmade nature of some of our products we can take up to 10 days to ship any order.
Once your package is out of our hands, delivery typically takes 2-10 days based on your location. We don't currently offer expedited shipping, but we do choose the fastest shipping possible based on what you paid.
We currently ship all orders from British Columbia, Canada. Orders shipped to the U.S. are checked in and start their journey at the USPS office in Blaine, Washington, and are not subject to any customs fees or duty beyond anything you paid at checkout. See our Tariff Info page for details.
Every jar is checked for chips, cracks and rust, then wrapped in corrugated cardboard, folded and taped over the open end, and usually packed mouth-side down. The mouth is the weakest part of a jar. Every gap is filled with biodegradable corn peanuts or kraft paper, boxes are packed tight and sturdy, and every order ships insured.
We experience very little breakage each year (maybe 2-3 packages) and we're very proud of our shipping record. More on our Shipping Policies page.
Our Tariff Info page has the current details.
We can ship internationally, but our system isn't set up to do it automatically. If you'd like to place an international order, please put together a cart, make sure it's saved with your email address, and let us know. We'll review your order and send you a shipping quote.
All items are priced per each, unless otherwise specified, even if the item picture shows more than one item or a set of items.
Sign up for our emails and get 15% off eligible items on your first order. Use the sign-up box at the bottom of any page. Your personal code arrives by email and is good for 7 days.

Our online system does not let you add anything to your cart that we don't have. We have nothing on backorder or pre-order unless it's specifically mentioned in the product title where you can't miss it.
If something is low in stock and someone buys it before you, you might not be able to check out until you adjust the quantity of that item in your cart.
Keep checking back. We add new treasures every week. Make sure you're signed up for our email list and social media channels, as we often share pre-order opportunities and restock details there.
We operate in both US and Canadian dollars based on your location. If your total is shown in USD it will be billed in USD, and if it's shown in CAD it will be billed in CAD. The same holds true if the total is shown in your local currency, as far as Shopify supports it.
If you use a VPN the location settings might not work for you. Your total at checkout will always say which currency you're paying in.
The shortest answer is yes. Mason Jar Merchant was founded by an American who married a Canadian, so we are both. We currently operate and make our products in British Columbia, Canada.
We offer 30-day returns. Full details are on our Returns & Exchanges page.
We're experts at packing mason jars, and breakage is very rare. Every order is insured, so on the off chance something happens, we'll replace it. Contact us with your order number and photos of the outside and inside of the package and any damage. These photos are essential for our insurance claims.
Vintage jars are from the 1970s or earlier, with embossed logos and a lot of history. They are no longer in production and haven't been since around the 1970s.
Every one is checked for chips, cracks and rust, and once a style is gone we don't know when we'll find more.
Modern jars are generally made after the 1970s, or are still in production today, from brands like Ball, Kerr, and Bernardin.
Given their age, we have to assume these jars are used. Some have slight signs of aging, like small scratches in the surface. We occasionally have boxes of unopened jars that are brand new in the box (BNIB), and those are very clearly labeled in the listing.
It's all about the mouth size. Check the mouth size on the listing: regular, wide or gem. Any lid for that size will fit, no matter how big the jar is. Not sure? Check our jar size cheat sheet, or bring your jar into the shop and we'll match it for you.
Wire bail jars use their own glass lids, and we don't carry lids that fit them.
We have a whole page just for that: our Size Guide. For odd or commercial jars, see Commercial jars and vintage mouth sizes.
Volumes are approximate. Older jars especially can vary a little from one to the next.
Gem jars were mainly (possibly only ever) produced in Canada between the early 1900s and the late 1970s. They have a mouth diameter between regular and wide mouth jars. You can see measurements on our Size Guide.
Gem jars can be sealed with pretty vintage glass lids or new modern canning lids. Find all Gem size lids here.
No, we try to steer clear of drinking and eating out of plastic whenever possible. All of our mason jars are real modern or vintage canning jars unless otherwise noted in the product description.
If we have them available, you can find them in our Bulk collection.
No, we don't value or date jars, though we do love to see pictures of your collections. We recommend The Red Book of Jars by Douglas M. Leybourne Jr. for your jar valuation needs. Keep in mind that collector value and market value can vary wildly.
We don't actually give out canning advice because we're jar experts, not canning experts. You can visit FreshPreserving.com or Bernardin.ca.
Fun fact: Bernardin, Ball, Kerr and Golden Harvest are all owned and manufactured by Newell Brands, their parent company.
Yes. The glass jar, lid and straw all go in the dishwasher. We've been putting ours in the dishwasher since 2020. Our decals are printed in-house and applied by hand, made to handle years of washing and years of use.
Just don't soak the jar or lid for any length of time. Soaking can loosen the decal and rust the lid.
Yes, the glass jar is microwave safe with the lid and straw removed.
It measures 3 3/8" across, and it's tapered at the bottom, so it fits most car cupholders. Our tumblers are 24 oz / 750 ml wide mouth (86 mm) jars, so any wide mouth lid fits too. See our jar size cheat sheet.
Yes. Every tumbler comes with a straw lid and reusable straw. Swapping the included lid is free: pick a different one right on the product page. If you don't see that option, leave us a note at checkout. You can also add extra lids to your order.
We don't offer straw swaps, but you can add an extra straw for just a couple of dollars. Head to our straw section and find your favourite.
Handmade in our shop in Fort Langley, Canada, just north of the Washington State border. We print and apply our decals and drill our lids in-house.
Yes. Our Signature Straw Lids come in both regular and wide mouth sizes. Just choose your size from the drop-down menu. Not sure what size jar you've got? Check our Size Guide.
Yes. We make custom tumblers for corporate gifts, parties, weddings and fundraisers. See our Custom Tumblers page for details and pricing.
Most of our jars are perfectly dishwasher safe. Lids, cozies, labels and straws each have their own tips, all on our Product Care page.
No, please hand wash painted lids. The paint is very durable, but dishwashers can affect how well it sticks to the lid. For straw lids, remove the grommet before washing (from the top down) and make sure everything is completely dry before putting it back together.
The glass jar and glass lid are dishwasher safe. Take the wire bail off before washing, though. It's mostly zinc, so it will corrode.
Jar donations (old and new) are always accepted at our shop. We sometimes buy collections, depending on size and quality. See our Jar Donations & Purchasing page for details.
Yes. Retailers can learn more and apply on our Wholesale page.
